Parent Volunteers
NOTE: All positions which involve interaction with children in any form require the one time attendance of the ÒProtecting GodÕs ChildrenÓ workshop sponsored by the Archdiocese. This three hour seminar addresses safe and proper interaction with children. Volunteers must also submit to a child abuse screening by the state of Missouri. In addition, a review of and signature commitment to ÒThe Archdiocese of St. Louis Code of Ethical Conduct for Clergy, Employees and Volunteers Working with MinorsÓ is required.
Cafeteria Supervision
This position entails providing supervision during lunch periods, assisting students with their lunches (i.e. opening items, making change,, helping clean up spills, etc), and helping students clean tables. A commitment of one day per week form 11:15 a.m. Ð 12:30 p.m. is required. In addition, the full day kindergarten class requires one person each day of the week to supervise from 11:20 a.m. Ð 12:00 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to bring preschool aged children. An orientation meeting is held in September to review responsibilities and answer questions.
Paid Playground Supervision
This position entails supervising students at recess times from 11:00 a.m. Ð 12:45 p.m. Ideally, a commitment of 5 days per week is desired. An orientation meeting is held in September to review responsibilities and answer questions.
Room Parent
Room Parents oversee and help coordinate the activities and functions created for and sponsored by the individual grades throughout the school year. The contact room parent coordinator collects completed interest sheets and secures a parent for each classroom for the upcoming school year, assembles an information package to assist contact room parents, holds an orientation meeting in September to review responsibilities, and disseminates information and answers questions as required.
The contact room parent for each class works closely with the homeroom teacher and parents. This person plans classroom holiday parties, requests party supplies from parents, solicits volunteers for class sponsored events, and helps the homeroom teacher with field trips. The room parent does not need to be present at each event, only coordinate them.
Library Aide
This position entails reading to grades K-3, checking in and out books for students, and returning books to the appropriate shelves. Individuals may volunteer during the school day as often as his/her schedule permits. An orientation meeting is held, usually the first day of school, to review St. SimonÕs library system, discuss responsibilities, and answer questions.
Copying Papers
This position entails making copies for the teachers one or more days per week for about 1 to 2 hours. Operational training for the copier will be provided. Volunteers are welcome to bring preschool aged children. |
